Iran’s Minister of Economy Ehsan Khandouzi has said that after a new round of sanctions were imposed on Iran in 2018, the country which largely depended on oil revenues was made to pursue plans to boost non-oil economy.

Khandouzi made the remarks in a meeting on Sunday with businesspeople of the northwestern province of Hamedan.

The minister said that the producers and their interests, that used to be paid few attention, are now on the center of attention of the Iranian policymakers.

In the light of the sanctions, the country has been able to distance from oil economy, Khandouzi said.

He added that “we made efforts to replace the oil revenues with sustainable revenues so that now the country’s fiscal budget mostly depends on tax incomes.”

Iran’s National Tax Administration (INTA) released a report of the country’s tax incomes in the five calendar months to late August last week which are 52% higher than figures reported in last year’s corresponding period.

The INTA data showed that Iran has collected as much as 2,820 trillion rials ($5.74 billion) of taxes in the March-August period while the figure stood at 1,850 trillion rials ($3.76 billion) in the same period of last year.
