Iran has joined the International Chamber of Commerce’s Certificate of Origin Accreditation Chain, leading to better coordination with other chambers of commerce across the world.
“Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture will insure against mistakes made in issuing certificates of origins, as part of the requirement for joining ICC’s accreditation chain,” said TCCIMA President Masoud Khansari on Monday.
Adherence to the Certificate of Origin Accreditation Chain is voluntary for chambers. By joining the accreditation chain, chambers agree to follow internationally applicable and widely accepted standards.
Nineteen other chambers from different countries also joined alongside Iran during a recent meeting of ICC WCF International Certificate of Origin Council.
The council’s new chairmanship, led by Peter Bishop, deputy CEO of the London Chamber of Commerce, and supported by Martin Van der Weide, policy manager on export documents at the Netherlands Chamber of Commerce and Chair of the Certificate of Origin Accreditation Committee, made the announcement on 5th July.
“The Certificate of Origin Chain brings chambers the recognition that they are mutually responsible and globally interconnected with their peers, giving reassurance to businesses, traders, banks and customs administrations that COs are issued according to internationally accepted best practices,” ICC stated.
A certificate of origin is completed by the exporter and certified by a recognized issuing body, like TCCIMA, identifying the country the goods in an export shipment were produced, manufactured or processed in.
