The D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation held an expert meeting where the member countries finalized a trade facilitation strategy.  

The meeting was hosted virtually on August 25 by the D-8 Secretariat, Istanbul. Senior Officials, Trade and Customs experts from the D-8 member states participated in the meeting.

A representative from Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) also attended the meeting where he presented some proposals to be included in the final document of TF strategy.

The meeting followed another virtual meeting chaired by Ms. Rasha Hamdy, Director-II of the Secretariat, on August 3.  

During the first meeting, Ms. Hamdy delivered the welcoming speech of the D-8 Secretary General Ambassador Dato’ Ku Jafaar Ku Shaari.

Termed the TF Strategy as a significant addition to the D-8 Preferential Trade Agreement, Mr. Ku Jaafar opined that it would positively invigorate the D-8 Member States to accelerate the process of integrating Member States’ trade facilitation mechanisms with the international fora.

He also expressed his high hope that this TF strategy would facilitate and expedite the necessary technical assistance and capacity-building measures required to reap the full benefits of the D-8 PTA (Preferential Trade Agreement).

D-8 is an organization for development cooperation among the following countries: Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan, and Turkey.

The objectives of D-8 Organization for Economic Cooperation are to improve member states' position in the global economy, diversify and create new opportunities in trade relations, enhance participation in decision-making at international level, and improve standards of living.

D-8 is a global arrangement rather than a regional one, as the composition of its members reflects.

Organization for Economic Cooperation (D-8) is a forum with no adverse impact on bilateral and multilateral commitments of the member countries, emanating from their membership to other international or regional organizations.
