Iran’s trade with China tops $9 billion in 8 months

Iran’s commercial exchanges with its leading trading partner, China, stood at $9.33 billion in the first eight months of 2021, registering a 4.8% decline compared with the corresponding period of 2020.

Iran’s commercial exchanges with its leading trading partner, China, stood at $9.33 billion in the first eight months of 2021, registering a 4.8% decline compared with the corresponding period of 2020.

Latest data released by the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China show Iran’s exports to China totaled $4.34 billion during the period, indicating a 12.2% increase year-on-year.

In return, China exported $4.99 billion worth of commodities to Iran, indicating a 16% YOY decrease.

Bilateral trade stood at $1.46 billion in August.

Iran’s exports to China stood at $714.53 million in August while imports hit $741.85 million.

Head of Trade Promotion Organization of Iran (TPO) Hamid Zadboom said late in August that China was the first export destination of Iranian commodities in the four months of the fiscal year (March 21-July 22) with $4.4 billion worth of imports from Iran, followed by Iraq, the UAE, Turkey and Afghanistan with $2.8 billion, $1.6 billion, $921 million and $728 million worth of imports from the country respectively.
