Food price inflation in Iran jumped in the fiscal month to September 22 so that most food items registered a year-on-year inflation more than the average inflation of the month.

Food price inflation in Iran jumped in the fiscal month to September 22 so that most food items registered a year-on-year inflation more than the average inflation of the month. 

Statistical Center of Iran released a report on Monday which put the country’s year-on-year inflation rate at 42.9% in the fiscal month of Shahrivar (August 23 – September 22) when compared to the same month last year. 

The report studied food prices in different urban areas of Iran in Shahrivar which indicated that 42 food items out of a total 53 items under study had posted an inflation rate higher than the average 42.9%.

Monthly gains in the cost of Iranian rice, which is one of the main items in the consumer basket of the Iranian people, was significant as its price registered an 11.2% increase in Shahrivar compared to the previous fiscal month.

Also in the dairy group, the pasteurized yoghurt and the Iranian pasteurized cheese posted 18.3 and 15.4 percent monthly gains respectively.  

The report also said that tomato paste rose 12.8% and mayonnaise sauce posted a 9.2% increase to register the highest monthly gains in the group of sugar, beverages and other foods.
