Iran private sector calls for cooperation with Finland in expansion of startups

President of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Gholam Hossein Shafei said on Monday that Iran wants further cooperation with Finland in promotion of startups and developing new methods of irrigation.

Shafei, who made the remarks during a meeting in Tehran with Finnish Ambassador to Iran Kari Kahiluoto, also stressed the need for cooperation between the two countries for empowerment of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

He also referred to Finland’s successful experience in privatization, urging the need for exchange of views between Tehran and Helsinki in this area.   

Shafei expressed satisfaction with promotion of a joint trade committee between the two countries into a joint chamber of commerce last month, however noting that the bilateral relations are still below the level of expectations.

The Finnish ambassador, for his part, expressed the Finnish private sector’s willingness to cooperate with their Iranian counterparts in order to revive the trade relations between the two countries.

Kahiluoto stressed the need for removing the barriers on the way of the expansion of trade between Iran and Finland.

He said that a long-term plan is needed to help the Iranian and Finnish economies complement each other.

The ambassador referred to the capacity of Iran’s South-North corridor and said he wanted to know more about this corridor.

Gholam Hossein Jamili, an Iran Chamber board member and the chairman of Iran-Finland Joint Chamber of Commerce, provided the ambassador with further information about the corridor and said that the railway project will be completed within the next few months.
