Iran’s Halal food capacity, which can attract a potential 1.5 billion Muslims across the world has been neglected, according to Chairman of Tourism Commission of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Ali-Akbar Abdolmaleki.

Underlining the need for commercializing the Iranian local food, Abdolmaleki said that registration and saving the data of all the Iranian food is on the agenda of ICCIMA Tourism Commission.

Food tourism is an important branch of tourism throughout the world, he said, however regretting that Iran has failed to make enough investment in this sector.

He believed that offering a variety of food alongside the cultural and agricultural sites would double their attraction.

Iran has the world’s second food variety after China, Abdolmaleki said, while noting that commercializing and branding of local food has been neglected in the country.

“Unfortunately, many Muslims around the world do not still know that Iran is a country with more than 98% Muslim population, in which from food products to all processed animal products such as leather bags and shoes are Halal.”

“Unfortunately, due to our weakness, many Iranian food are registered in other countries under their own names,” Abdolmaleki said, underlining the need to register all the Iranian food and beverages.
