Chairman of Iran-Syria Joint Chamber of Commerce Keyvan Kashefi said on Wednesday that Iran’s exports to Syria during the first three quarters of the Iranian calendar year (March 21 – December 21) have reached $160 million.

Kashefi said that the figure shows some 90% growth when compared to Iran’s $84 million exports to Syria in the preceding year’s corresponding period.

The lion share of Iran’s exports to Syria in the nine-month period were steam turbine parts, foodstuff, and pharmaceuticals, Kashefi said.

Kashefi, also a board member of Iran Chamber of Commerce, added that Iran imported some $22.9 million from Syria in the mentioned period which posted a 53% increase in comparison to the $15 million imports in the corresponding period of the preceding year.

Phosphate was the main item Iran imported from the Arab country, he noted.

“Now, with the establishment of security in Syria and the beginning of reconstruction of the country, it is possible for Iran to increase exports to Syria”

Kashefi also referred to the launch of a trade center in Damascus by Iran Chamber of Commerce, and said that the center could facilitate trade between the two countries.
