Iran and Qatar have signed three major deals on civil aviation as the two countries expand their cooperation in the run-up to the World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

Senior Iranian and Qatari government officials sign agreement on April 10, 2022 in the southern Iranian island of Kish.

Iran and Qatar have signed three major deals on civil aviation as the two countries expand their cooperation in the run-up to the World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

A spokesman of the Iranian Civil Aviation Organization said on Monday that the deals had been signed earlier in the day between senior government officials from Iran and Qatar as they met in the resort Iranian island of Kish in the Persian Gulf.

Mir Akbar Razavi said the deals included agreements to increase the number of flights between Iran and Qatar during the World Cup from November 21 to December 18.

The two other deals will cover issues on aviation control and search and rescue services, said Razavi.

The deals came on the second day of a two-day conference in Kish between Iranian road and transportation minister Rostam Qassemi and his Qatari counterpart Jassim bin Saif Al Sulaiti and their accompanying delegations.

Iran has vowed it will provide full logistics support to Qatar during the World Cup including by providing accommodation and aviation services to help the Arab country better organize the tournament.

Iran also wants to use the event as a major opportunity to boost a domestic tourism sector hit by the spread of the coronavirus pandemic over the past two years.

Iranian Foreign Ministry authorities said earlier this week that they have a plan to offer free of charge visas to foreign nationals visiting Qatar for the World Cup.

Qatari government delegation visiting Kish was on a tour of the island on Monday as they visited aviation and sport facilities, according to reports published in the local media.
