A new free trade zone was launched on Iran’s joint border with Iraq on Saturday.

In a visit to Ilam, southwestern Iran, Secretary of Iran's Free Zones High Council Saeed Mohammad, appointed Noureddin Rahimi as the director of Mehran Free Trade Zone so that the new FTZ officially began its activity.

Mehran Free Trade Zone is one of the seven FTZs that were going to be launched across Iran based on an approval by the country’s Expediency Council a year ago.

Inche Bron, Ardebil, Sistan, Baneh, Bushehr, and Qasr-e Shirin are six other FTZs that have been agreed to be launched in different parts of Iran.

Mehran is one of the main border crossings between Iran and Iraq. Mehran border city is some 230 km off the Iraqi capital city of Baghdad.
