Iran has replaced Ukraine with Brazil for the country’s mostly needed imports of animal feed, according to an official familiar with the matter.

Iran’s decision to import more animal feed is taking place as the war in Ukraine has created difficulty for Iran to meet its needs for animal feed.

Managing-General of the Central Union of Iran Animal farmers, Mojtaba A’li, said on Monday that Iran has plans to begin imports of Brazilian animal feed within the next few months.

He said that Iran has made the necessary preparations for barter trade with Brazil as of six months ago.

The Ministry of Agriculture aims to make use of the country’s private sector capacities for importing the required animal feed, A’li sadi.

Imports of animal feed raw material has so far been carried out using subsidized foreign currency [at the rate of 42,000 rials per dollar].

The official said that the government will continue to allocate subsidized foreign currency for the imports of animal feed until the end of the third Iranian calendar month (June 21).

In fact, the government is looking to abolish the cheap import regime at the rate of 42,000 rials per dollar for all essential goods, except for wheat and medicine.
