During a meeting of Syrian agricultural activists and the members of the Agriculture Commission of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) on Tuesday, the Syrian side called on Iran private sector to make investments in production of agricultural machinery and implementing research projects in Syria.
The meeting followed an Iran-Syria Trade Forum hosted by ICCIMA on Monday.
During the meeting, Mohsen Amini, the chairman of Agricultural Commission of Iran Chamber of Commerce, said that agricultural cooperation of Iran and Syria can help meet the needs of the big regional market.
Noting that the International Chamber of Commerce has named Iran the agrifood hub of the region, Amini said that this is indicative of the existence of major potentials in Iran.
He added that Iran can prove a good trade partner for Syrian agricultural activists.
Also speaking during the meeting, President of Syria’s Federation of Chambers of Agriculture Mohammad Keshto who headed the Syrian part, underlined the need for implementing the already signed agreements between the two countries.
He urged the private sectors of both countries to take advantage of the existing chances to give a boost to bilateral interactions.
In the meantime, Yahya al-Mohammad, the director general of Syria’s Federation of Chambers of Agriculture, referred to fertile lands in Syria and stressed the need for further investments in the country’s agricultural sector.
He said that Syria is in need of machinery, fertilizers and pesticides to promote its agriculture.
Al-Mohammad also added that his country can serve as gate for re-exports of Iranian products.
