Iranian Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian and President of Iran Chamber of Commerce Gholam Hossein Shafei arrived in Qatar on Sunday to attend a joint economic commission regularly held between the two countries.
Sports Minister Hamid Sajjadi and head of Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPO) Alireza Peymanpak are other high-ranking members of the Iranian delegation.
Mehrabian and Qatar’s Minister of Commerce and Industry Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin Qassim Al-Thani will co-chair the eight round of intergovernmental committee meetings between Iran and Qatar.
Meetings between officials of the two countries have increased in recent months as Qatar prepares to host the World Cup 2022 in November and December.
Iran has offered its full logistical support to help Qatar successfully organize the tournament.
Iran’s official IRNA agency said that a senior Iranian trade delegation comprised of notable export and manufacturing companies will arrive in Qatar on Sunday for a five-day visit to the Persian Gulf country.
The report said representatives from 40 companies are expected to sign major contracts with Qatari partners during the joint economic and trade committee meetings in Doha.
It said that the TPO will introduce a new Iranian trade attaché to Qatar in the upcoming days.
Experts say Iran’s trade with Qatar can significantly increase from a current annual figure of $150 million in light of the increasing cooperation between the two countries.
