The Iranian customs office (IRICA)'s data indicates that the value of the country's non-oil trade with foreign states reached a total of $16.631 billion over April and May.

The IRICA figures showed that Iran had a trade surplus of $401 million in the two months to May 21.

Exports from Iran rose 37% year on year in April-May to stand at $8.516 billion, said the report. Shipments had risen by 1.6% in volume terms to reach 17.014 million metric tons (mt), it added.

IRICA figures showed that imports into Iran over the two months to late May had increased by 24% in value terms compared to the similar period in 2021 to reach $8.115 billion. Imports had declined by 3.37% in volume terms over the same period to stand at 5.182 million mt.

China was Iran’s largest trade partner over April and May. Exports to China reached $2.72 billion over the period while imports from the East Asian country stood at $2.117 billion, showed the customs figures.

The UAE, the main re-exporting hub in the Persian Gulf, was the largest supplier of goods to Iran over the two months to late May, said IRICA, adding that UAE exports to Iran had amounted to $2.247 billion over the period.

Iranian exports to the UAE reached over $1.5 billion while exports to Iraq stood at $1.312 billion over April-May, said the Iranian customs administration, adding that shipments sent to Turkey and India had topped $766 million and $290 million, respectively.

The figures showed that India and China had each exported around $2.117 billion worth of goods to Iran over the two months to late May while imports from Turkey and Russia had reached $875 million and $319 million, respectively.

Iran’s non-oil foreign trade recorded 100 billion dollars in worth during the past Iranian calendar year (ended on March 20, 2022).

The country reached the figure after exchange of 162 million tons of commodities with world countries last year, Head of Iran Customs Administration Ali Reza Moqaddasi announced.

He said the figure showed a 38 percent growth as compared to the same period the preceding year.
