Iran’s five-month steel output at 11.4 million tons

Iranian steel mills produced a total of 11.4 million tons of crude steel in the first five months of 2022, registering a 10.8% decline compared with the corresponding period of 2021.

Iranian steel mills produced a total of 11.4 million tons of crude steel in the first five months of 2022, registering a 10.8% decline compared with the corresponding period of 2021. 

A new report released by the World Steel Association shows Iran's May output hit 2.3 million tons, down by 17.6% year-on-year. 

In terms of world ranking, Iran maintained its global standing as the world’s 10th biggest crude steelmaker. 

China was the world’s largest producer during the five-month period with 435 million tons of steel output, down 8.7% YOY. It was followed by India with 53.2 million tons (up 6.5%), Japan with 38.5 million tons (down 3.5%), the United States with 34.3 million tons (down 1.6%), Russia with 31 million tons (down 2.3%), South Korea with 28.2 million tons (down 3.4%), Germany with 16.4 million tons (down 4.8%) and Turkey with 3.2 million tons (down 2.8%).

Iran is placed after Brazil (ninth) with 14.5 million tons (down 2.2% YOY). 

The world’s 64 steelmakers produced 791.8 million tons of steel in the five months under review, down 6.3% YOY. Countries located in Asia and Oceania collectively produced 582 million tons of the total.

Iranian Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade said in a report late in May that the country’s major steel mills produced over 53.2 million tons of raw steel and different steel products in the fiscal year to March 20.
