Iran Grid Management Company (IGMC) says the electricity usage in the country has broken an all-time record as scorching heat stretches the power grid to near its limits.
IGMC’s CEO Mostafa Rajabi said peak demand for electricity in Iran reached 67,012 megawatts at 16:16 PM Saturday.
That broke the record of 63,318 megawatts set in August last year, Rajabi said.
The official said no grid failure or blackouts had been reported across Iran during the peak demand.
“The electricity will continue to be available to all customers based on our plans,” he said.
The record demand came as temperatures rose to over 41 Celsius (104 Fahrenheit) in the capital Tehran and many Iranian cities with mild weather on Saturday.
Other reports said power consumption in the province of Tehran and two neighboring provinces of Alborz and Qom had increased by 3,000 megawatts compared to the same day last year.
The IGMC said electricity demand in the three highly populated provinces was 300 megawatts more than what had been expected for the peak hours this year.
