A direct flight began operating between Iranian northern city of Rasht and Astrakhan in southern Russia on Sunday.
The ceremony in which the first flight for Astrakhn left Rasht’s Sardar Jangal Airport was participated by the governor of Gilan Province of Iran, the Iranian consul-general to Astrakhan and Russia’s consul-general to Rasht, and the Head of Rasht Chamber of Commerce Hadi Tizhoush Taban who also chairs the Iran-Russia Joint Chamber of Commerce.
Speaking during the ceremony, Tizhoush Taban said that the establishment of the new flight is a positive measure taken with support of President Raeisi’s government to help complete the commercial infrastructures in Gilan.
He said that the flight, which is scheduled to operate on a weekly basis, is also expected to give a boost to tourism cooperation between Gilan and Astrakhan.
Underlining the significance of the newly-launched flight, he said that Gilan and Astrakhan are known as two key hubs for promotion of trade between Iran and Russia.
