Iran imports $825 million worth of Indian rice in seven months

Iran has imported some $825 million worth of rice from India in the in the first seven months of 2022 (January – July) registering a 28% year-on-year growth, according to a report by India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

Iran has imported some $825 million worth of rice from India in the in the first seven months of 2022 (January – July) registering a 28% year-on-year growth, according to a report by India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The report put Iran’s total trade with India in the seven-month period at $1.6 billion up 49% compared to $1.07 billion of bilateral trade in the preceding year’s corresponding period.  

India’s exports to Iran also grew 54% YOY and totaled $1.24 billion in the period under review. The country had exported some $807 million worth of goods to Iran in the same period of 2021.

India imported some $361 million worth of commodities from Iran in the mentioned period, registering a 35% increase compared to the country’s $267 million worth of imports from Iran during last year’s corresponding period.  

Rice was India’s main export item to Iran accounting for two thirds of India’s total exports to the country.
