The National Iranian Gas Company supplied close to 265 billion cubic meters of natural gas to households, industries, commercial units and power stations between July 2021 and June 2022, the managing director of Iranian Gas Transmission Company said.

“NIGC transferred about 852 million cubic meters of gas on Jan. 6, 2022, that was the highest daily volume ever transferred since the firm was established in 1965,” Gholamabbas Hosseini was also quoted as saying by the Energy Today website.

The length of gas transfer pipeline in Iran has exceeded 38,000 kilometers and close to 1,000 km were added to the grid in the one-year period, he added.

IGTC, a subsidiary of NIGC, is in charge of operating 88 gas pressure boosting stations.

According to the official, the national gas grid is equipped with 326 compressors, including high-pressure gas compressors, turbo compressors, electro-compressors and engine compressors.

Ten turbines went on stream last year and development plans are underway in different regions.

With the installation of new pipelines and construction of pressure boosting stations, more gas can be transmitted through the Iran Gas Trunkline, which is a series of nine large diameter pipelines built to supply gas from refineries in southern Iran (Khuzestan and Bushehr provinces).

Referring to the average daily transmission of natural gas in the country, Hosseini said that according to the latest reports, 700 mcm of gas were transferred on average per day during the first three months of the current Iranian year (March 21-June 21).

The official noted that 65 billion cubic meters of natural gas were injected into the network during the period.

“In terms of the size of network, IGTC ranks first in Asia and the Middle East and fourth in the world after the US, Russia and Canada. The company has nine gas export and import terminals with a capacity to transfer more than 280 bcm of gas per year,” Hosseini said.
