Bangladeshi Commercial Counselor in Tehran Julia Moin said on Tuesday that her country is eager to import grapes and raisin from northeastern Iranian province of North Khorasan.
The Bangladeshi diplomat made the remarks in a meeting in Bojnourd, the capital city of North Khorasan Province, with Chairman of Bojnourd Chamber of Commerce Saeed Pourabadi.
She said that the Iranian companies can take advantage of the free economy of Bangladesh for re-export of their products to other world countries.
Moin said that, as a member of World Trade Organization, Bangladesh can provide Iranian companies with access to Southeast Asia markets.
Noting that textile industry is one of the main capacities of Bangladesh, the diplomat said that Iran has had good cooperation with Bangladesh in this regard and that Dhaka insists on further trade exchanges.
The Iranian side, for his part, said that horticultural products of North Khorasan Province are so much healthy and organic and are considered as one of the main export items of the province.
The province also grows medicinal herbs that can be exported, Pourabadi said.
During an economic meeting earlier this week, the Bangladeshi diplomat put Iran’s exports to Bangladesh during the first nine months of 2022 at $66 million.
This is while Iran’s imports from Bangladesh stood at $40 million during the mentioned period, according to the diplomat.
Bangladesh is one of the largest producers of clothes and the eighth largest cotton exporter in the world.
