Iran private sector calls for more enhanced trade with Cuba in sanctions-free sectors

Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) has stressed that areas which have been exempt from sanctions provide a good ground for further trade cooperation between Iran and Cuba.

In a meeting on Thursday with Cuban Ambassador to Tehran Alberto Gonzalez Casals, the ICCIMA Deputy for International Affairs Alireza Yavari, called for enhanced cooperation between the two countries in different food, drugs, mines, and tourism areas.

Yavari referred to agriculture and constructional products such as ceramic and tile as other areas for cooperation between Iran and Cuba.

He also referred to the possibility of making investments in joint production of medicine, calling on Cuba to transfer medical technologies to Iran.

Yavari proposed that a joint specialized exhibition be held in Kish Island of Iran to help promote trade relations between Tehran and Havana.  

The Cuban ambassador, for his part, referred to the existence of various potentials for bilateral cooperation and called for further exchanges between the two countries in different areas.   

Referring to his recent visit to Iran’s MAPNA Group, which involves in development and execution of thermal and renewable power plants, oil and gas, railway transportation and other industrial projects, Casals noted that the development of energy networks is a major area in which Iran and Cuba can cooperate.

He also called for further cooperation of the two countries in production of medicines.

The ambassador also noted that launching a direct flight between Iran and Cuba is a prerequisite for more enhanced trade relations of the two nations.

In an April meeting with ICCIMA President Gholam Hossein Shafei, Ambassador Casals highlighted that launching a direct flight between the two capitals is pivotal to tourism cooperation.
