“Increased Iran-Russia relations rests upon removing transportation, banking obstacles”

The Iranian businesspersons in the Iranian central city of Isfahan believe that a boom in relations between Iran and Russia would depend on removing the transportation, customs and banking problems between the two sides.

A meeting between a major Russian trade delegation and their counterparts in the Iranian central city of Isfahan is held on November 18, 2022.

The Iranian businesspersons in the Iranian central city of Isfahan believe that a boom in relations between Iran and Russia would depend on removing the transportation, customs and banking problems between the two sides.

They made the remarks during a meeting with a major Russian trade delegation which have travelled to Isfahan as part of their visit to Iran.  

Speaking during the meeting, Chairman of Isfahan Chamber of Commerce Masoud Golshirazi referred to the tourism attractions of Isfahan and expressed hope that trade exchanges between Iran and Russia would also lead to further deepening cultural relations between the two countries.

With more than 50,000 industrial units, Isfahan is a major industrial hub in Iran, Golshirazi said, adding that the province is ready to interact with Russia in all areas.

He underlined the need for removing obstacles on the way of transportation between Iran and Russia which he said have negatively affected trade exchanges between the two countries.

He called for further cooperation between the chambers of commerce of the two countries in this regard.

In the meantime, Russian Consul General in Isfahan Boris Burmistrov expressed all-out support for trade relations between industrial companies in Isfahan with the Russian Federation.

He said that statistics suggest a three-fold increase in trade exchanges between Isfahan and Russia over the past six months.

Burmistrov also added that trade ties between Iran and Russia have been increasing since 2019.

A 120-member Russian trade delegation, headed by President of Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation Sergey Katyrin, arrived in Tehran on November 14.

The Russian delegation the visited other Iranian cities of Rasht, Anzali and Isfahan.

The delegation is comprised of businesspersons in different areas, including transportation, food, constructional materials, petrochemical and oil products, international arbitration, and so on.

Iran and Russian traded as much as $4.63 billion worth of commodities over the Iranian last calendar year to March 20, according to an April report by Iran Customs Administration (IRICA).

The two countries plan to increase bilateral trade by nearly 10 times to $40 billion.
