Iran has produced as much as 20.8 million tons of grains in this crop year, according to a recent report by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The figure shows a 17.3% growth when compared to Iran’s 17.7 million tons of last year grain output.

Iranian government under President Ebrahim Raisi has been seeking to increase the production of essential commodities to cut reliance on imports from other countries.

The FAO report also suggests that Iran has made a significant growth in production of wheat and rice as two major grains needed by the country.

Iran has produced some 13 million tons of wheat in this crop year registering a 25% rise from last year’s 10.4 million tons of last year, the report said.

It also put Iran’s annual rice imports at 3.5 million tons which is up 20% year on year.

Iran’s production of other grains has remained unchanged at 4.3 million tons.
