Iran’s daily gas production from South Pars joint field hits 700 million cubic meters (mcm), announced the managing director of the Pars Oil and Gas Company (POGC).

Mohammad-Hossein Motejali listed the priorities of his company in two sectors of development and exploitation, and said his company has an important role in managing the country's gas production and consumption balance in the cold months of the year.

“The implementation of the production maintenance plan for South Pars Gas Field is one of the most important priorities of the company,” he added.

The official noted that along with the gas pressure boosting projects for the giant field, the development of other fields such as North Pars, Belal and Farzad are on the agenda of the POGC.

South Pars Gas Field, which Iran shares with Qatar in the Persian Gulf waters, is divided into 24 standard phases of development in the first stage. Most of the phases are fully operational at the moment.

The huge offshore field covers an area of 9,700 square kilometers, 3,700 square kilometers of which are in Iran’s territorial waters in the Persian Gulf. The remaining 6,000 square kilometers, called North Dome, are situated in Qatar’s territorial waters.

The field is estimated to contain a significant amount of natural gas, accounting for about eight percent of the world’s reserves, and approximately 18 billion barrels of condensate.
