Iran’s Q1-3 trade with Caspian states tops $2.7 billion

Iran’s trade (excluding crude oil exports) with Caspian Sea littoral states reached 5.1 million tons worth $2.76 billion during the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 21-Dec. 21), according to the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration.

Iran’s trade (excluding crude oil exports) with Caspian Sea littoral states reached 5.1 million tons worth $2.76 billion during the first nine months of the current Iranian year (March 21-Dec. 21), according to the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration.

The figures registered a 10.04% rise in value, but a 10.73% fall in terms of weight compared with the similar period of last year.

Russia was Iran’s main trading partner among the Caspian states with 2.86 million tons (down 19.51%) worth $1.63 billion (down 1.75%) during the period under review. It was followed by Azerbaijan with 584,588 tons (down 9.76%) worth $533.11 million (up 26.67%), Turkmenistan with 1.03 million tons (down 0.28%) worth $358.850 million (up 35.34%) and Kazakhstan with 619,077 tons (up 29.53%) worth $239.36 million (up 40.39%).

Iran’s exports exceeded 2.99 million tons worth $1.52 billion during the period, registering a 6.24% rise in weight, but a 47.43% fall in value.

Russia was Iran’s biggest export destination with 1.04 million tons (up 25.67%) worth $546.3 million (up 26.2%), followed by Azerbaijan with 568,880 tons (down 9.56%) worth $506.82 million (up 30.49%), Turkmenistan with 1 million tons (up 0.7%) worth $339 million (up 41.06%) and Kazakhstan with 378,867 tons (up 5.14%) worth $132.38 million (down 0.13%).

Imports from the four countries under review hit 2.1 million tons worth $1.23 billion during the nine months to register a 27.24% and 6.23% fall in weight and value, respectively.

Russia was the top exporter to Iran with 1.82 million tons (down 33.19%) worth $1.08 billion (down 60.27%). It was followed by Kazakhstan with 240,209 tons (up 104.22%) worth $106.97 million (up 182.11%), Azerbaijan with 15,707 tons (down 16.7%) worth $26.28 million (down 19%) and Turkmenistan with 30,011 tons (down 10.1%) worth $19.84 million (down 20%).

Iran’s trade with Caspian states hit 7.91 million tons worth $3.48 billion in the fiscal 2021-22, up from 6.24 million tons worth $2 billion year-on-year.
