An Iraqi trade delegation visited the headquarters of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) for further expansion of relations on Monday.
The Iraqi delegation was composed of businesspersons from Najaf Chamber of Commerce and Erbil Chamber of Commerce of Iraqi Kurdistan region.
During the meeting, the two sides explored ways for more enhanced cooperation on trade and investment between the two neighboring countries.
The Iraqi delegation represented companies active in a variety of areas including general trade, tourism and hotel management, textiles, steel, metal products, flour and wheat, poultry, foodstuff, plastic industry, and drinking water.
Speaking during the meeting, Head of Iran-Iraq Joint Chamber of Commerce Yahya Al-Eshaq said that Iraq is Iran’s second biggest trade partner. He noted that there is still much more room for further enhancement of exchanges between the two countries.
Hossein Selahvarzi, the vice-president of Iran Chamber of Commerce, also addressed the meeting where he said that the level of bilateral trade between Tehran and Baghdad is far behind what has been expected.
He appreciated the efforts made by the joint chamber of commerce of the two countries for organizing the meeting, expressing hope that such meetings will continue to be held in the future.
In the end, the Iraqi businesspeople had B2B meetings with their Iranian partners where they exchanged views on different issues.
The Iraqi delegation is also scheduled to pay a visit to Khorramabad, the capital city of Lorestan Province, so as to get familiar with trade and investment capacities of the province.
