During a meeting in Tehran on Sunday, Iran’s Minister of Road Urban Development Mehrdad Bazrpash and Igor Levitin, who serves as a special aide to Russian President Vladimir Putin, also discussed cooperation on different air, maritime, railway, road, and multimodal transportation.

Referring to the long history of cooperation between the Iranian and Russian ports in maritime transportation, the Iranian minister also urged the need for both countries to tap into the potential of other ports in bilateral trade.

He said that a giant Russian ro-ro ship docked at the northern Iranian port of Noshahr for the first time in 21 years last April, an event which he believed was a major step in maritime trade between the two countries.

During his stay in Tehran, Russia’s Levitin also had a meeting with Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber earlier on Saturday where they discussed the implementation of a strategically important International North-South Transit Corridor (INSTC).

Speaking during the meeting, Mokhber said that Iran and Russia can be turned into a major hub of exporting food products in the region through the implementation of joint investment projects between the two countries.
