Iran’s steel output at 30.6 million mt in 2022: Worldsteel

Iran produced as much as 30.6 million metric tons (mt) of steel in 2022 to remain the world’s 10th largest steel producer, according to a recent update by the World Steel Association (worldsteel).

The worldsteel figures cited in a Monday report by the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) also suggested that the IMIDRO and its subsidiaries were the 20th largest steelmaker in the world in 2022.

With an aggregate output of 1.18 billion mt, China was the largest steel producer in the world in 2022, the report said.

It added that world steel production has grown 10 times in 72 years from 189 million mt in 1950 to 1.885 billion mt in 2022.
