Head of Iran-Switzerland Joint Chamber of Commerce says the potentials of Switzerland are proper for using Iran’s frozen funds in South Korea in the country.

Sharif Nezam Mafi made the remarks on Monday following news reports that the Iranian frozen funds in South Korea which have been released following a prisoner swap deal with the United States are going to be used in Switzerland.

He said that he had no information about any possible agreement for using Iranian assets in the European country and has merely heard news reports in this regard.

Nezam Mafi however noted that if such reports are true, Switzerland would be a reasonable place for spending the frozen funds.

“Considering that Geneva is a center for most grains companies, Switzerland will be a good choice,” he said.

“If we want to look at this issue historically, Switzerland has always played a role in the issue of Iran's blocked money at different times,” Nezam Mafi said, adding that Switzerland has always helped Iran to take advantage of political agreements to use its funds for trade and purchase of grains and pharmaceuticals.

During the last sanctions period, two Swiss banks played a key role for Iranian businessmen by facilitating money transfers, and it is very possible that Switzerland can play a role once again, he argued.

Noting that Switzerland is a world hub for grains and the country’s pharmaceuticals are playing a key global role, he said that if the Iranian frozen assets are going to be used in these two areas, Switzerland can be a potential choice.
