President of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Hossein Selahvarzi has expressed hope that Iran will be able to cultivate 20,000 hectares of lands in Kenya based on an overseas farming agreement between the two countries.
Selahvarzi made the remarks in a meeting with Kenyan Ambassador to Iran Joshua I. Gatimu.
He said that Iran and Kenya have to find solutions to financial and banking exchanges which he said are hindering trade between the two nations.
The president of Iran Chamber of Commerce also underlined the urgency of defining a barter trade mechanism under which Iran can barter some items to Kenya for importing tea, coffee, and tropical fruits from the country.
Noting that Iran is currently exporting bitumen and petrochemical products as well as medicine and other pharmaceutical products to Kenya, Selahvarzi said that Iran plans for meat and livestock imports from Kenya.
The Kenyan ambassador, for his part, expressed his country’s eagerness for expansion of trade with Iranian private sector.
Noting that the Kenyan economy mainly relies on agriculture, he said that the country is widely eager to cooperate in the area of food security.
Kenya is ready to provide investment chances for Iranians, the ambassador said, adding that there are good investment potentials in Kenya and the country’s government is ready to grant incentives to Iranian investors.
