Head of the National Productivity Organization of Iran has cited the latest data released by the International Energy Agency (IEA) which says Iran had the world’s biggest per capita energy consumption in 2022.

Mir-Saman Pishvaei said on Wednesday that although Iran sits on the world’s second largest oil and gas reserves, it faces imbalances for its high level of consumption.

The worrying issue is that the global average energy consumption is downwards, while it is upwards in Iran, the official said.

Noting that the Iranian officials have to take serious measures in energy consumption, he said that “we have to move from providing energy to management of energy consumption.”

Pishvaei also said that Iran consumes as much as 700 million cubic meters a day (mcm/d) of gas during winter which is not acceptable in comparison to other world countries.
