Gasoline consumption in Iran set a new record high last Tuesday a day before the two-week Persian New Year holidays.

Jalil Salari, the managing director of the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC), said Iran’s daily gasoline consumption hit record 152 million liters on Tuesday amid travels on the eve of the Persian New Year known as Nowruz.

He however said that his colleagues at NIORDC will remain at work during the holidays to ensure the supply of gasoline.

Salari had said early in January that the country’s average daily gasoline consumption had reached about 113 million liters in that month.

Persian Gulf Star refinery in southern Iran is said to be responsible for 40% of the country’s gasoline needs.
