Iran has exported over €36.5 million worth of saffron to Spain in 2023 which shows an 11.4% decline compared to figures from the preceding year, according to a report.
A report by the international department of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) however suggests that Iran continues to be the main supplier of saffron to Spain.
The European country exported as much as €51.2 million worth of saffron in 2023, while also importing €41.8 million of the precious spice in the one-year timespan.
The United states, Italy, Sweden, France and the UAE were the top five destinations for Spanish saffron in 2023, with Iran and Afghanistan being responsible for the lion’s share of the country’s imports of the product.
