Iran, Russia sign gas transfer MoU

Iran and Russia have signed a memorandum of understanding for pumping Russian gas into Iran, according to Iran’s Oil Minister Javad Owji.

He said that the MoU have been signed between the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) and Russia’s Gazprom in presence of Iran’s acting president Mohammad Mokhber.  

He also noted that the signing of the agreement followed previous meetings between Iran’s late president Ebrahim Raisi and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

Noting that Iran and Russia sit on more than 60% of the world’s gas reserves, the minister said that the agreement between the two countries could lead to good developments in the whole region.

He stressed that Iran’s infrastructures and gas transfer pipelines are fully prepared for receiving the Russian gas.  

The minister expressed hope that the MoU will soon turn into a document which he said would be very significant for both Tehran and Moscow.
