Iran plans to expand rain-fed wheat production

In line with efforts to increase Iranian wheat output over the past few years, the country has plans to give a further rise to its rain-fed wheat production within the next 3 years, according to deputy minister of agricultural jihad.

In line with efforts to increase Iranian wheat output over the past few years, the country has plans to give a further rise to its rain-fed wheat production within the next 3 years, according to deputy minister of agricultural jihad. 

Mojtaba Khayyam Nekouei said on Sunday that Iran’s annual production of rain-fed wheat is expected to increase to as much as 6 million tons by the calendar year to March 2027.  

Iran’s rain-fed wheat output has increased from 4 million tons last year to more than 5 million tons this year, the official said.

Noting that the country is now producing more than 1,200 kg per hectare of rain-fed, he said that the government is seeking to apply knowledge-based methods to increase the country’s rain-fed production to 6 million tons by March 2027.
