Road transit via Iranian soil has seen a 61% year-on-year increase in the first six months of the calendar year to late September, according to an official familiar with the matter.

Javad Hedayati, the director of transit and international transportation of Iran’s Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization, said that the rise in Iran’s foreign transit was due to promotion of the country’s logistics capacities and successful diplomacy in engagement with neighboring countries.

Over 404,000 Iranian and foreign trucks transited as much as 9.3 million tons of good via Iranian soil from March 20 to September 21, according to the official up 61% compared to last year’s corresponding period when a total of 5.78 million tons of goods were transited through Iranian roads.

He said that figures reported in six months are equal to the country’s one-year tallies three years ago.
