Governor of the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) has said that the country plans to become a member and shareholder of the New Development Bank (NDB), formerly referred to as the BRICS Development Bank.
He said on Tuesday that the NDB Bank, developed by the BRICS group of developing countries, can pursue the goals of member states.
Iran and Russia reached good agreements on financial and monetary cooperation during a meeting of central banks of BRICS member states, he said, adding that the two countries also shared the outcomes of their agreements with the attendees of the BRICS meeting.
Farzin said that Iran and Russia have also agreed to link their banking card systems.
Noting that the BRICS meeting also focused on developing payment systems based on local currencies, he said that Iran, Russia and China strongly welcome this issue.
He highlighted the role of the NDB Bank in pursuing the goals of the BRICS members, as he believed that the World Bank is currently serving the interests of the United States and other Western countries.
