Iran’s Ambassador to Moscow Kazem Jalali has said that a comprehensive deal between Iran and Russia will not be signed on the sidelines of an upcoming BRICS Summit.

Iran and Russia had earlier said that the landmark agreement would be signed on the sidelines of a BRICS Summit due to be held in Kazan, Russia, on October 22-24.

Jalali said that the two countries have decided to sign the deal in a bilateral meeting as they believed that the glory of the agreement would be overshadowed by a multilateral BRICS Summit in Kazan.

The ambassador added that the agreement had already been finalized in both Iran and Russia and its signing was postponed due to the death of Iran’s former president Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash in May and the election of a new president.

He did not specify the time and venue of the bilateral meeting during which the agreement will be signed.
