The President of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture says that conditions are favorable for foreign investors to return to Iran, highlighting Germany’s prominent role in the country’s industrial development.
During a meeting in Tehran on Tuesday with German Ambassador Markus Potzel, Samad Hassanzadeh expressed optimism about expanding bilateral ties. He pointed to Iran's economic potential as a foundation for deeper cooperation with Germany.
“Germany has played a key role in Iranian industry. Many of the original machines and equipment used in our manufacturing sectors – including automotive, agricultural machinery, and food processing – came from Germany,” Hassanzadeh said. He added that much of this equipment is now outdated and in need of modernization.
Despite growing interest from both Iranian and German businesses in joint ventures, Hassanzadeh noted that sanctions and financial transaction restrictions remain key barriers. He emphasized that lifting sanctions would not only support diplomatic progress but also create a clearer path for industrial renewal.
He also said that Iranian goods and services have the potential to gain a foothold in European markets, calling for more support to facilitate bilateral trade.
Ambassador Potzel welcomed the ongoing economic ties between the two countries, despite recent challenges. “Germany remains Iran’s largest European trading partner,” he said.
Acknowledging the impact of sanctions on commerce, Potzel voiced optimism about ongoing diplomatic efforts, expressing hope that Iran-U.S. talks will soon yield positive results and lead to sanctions being lifted.
The ambassador also praised Iran’s economic potential, citing the country’s wealth of natural resources, industrial capacity, and the high level of human capital.
