The president of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture called for deeper economic cooperation among Islamic countries during a meeting with his Jordanian counterpart in Amman.

Samad Hassanzadeh, who met Khalil al-Haj Tawfiq, president of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, on the sidelines of the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Development board meeting in the Jordanian capital on Monday, said Muslim countries’ “rich resources, major national assets, natural endowments and broad potential in industry, agriculture, engineering services and modern technologies” could create “a great opportunity for joint development and progress.”

He urged chambers of commerce across the Islamic world to pursue “a common policy” to overcome trade and customs barriers and to expand financial and banking mechanisms.

Hassanzadeh said joint investment in infrastructure sectors including energy, agriculture, advanced technologies, tourism and environmental protection, as well as strengthening transport and logistics networks, should be seen as “a major international responsibility” for the future.

He added that Iran’s chamber was ready to stage a specialized exhibition of Iranian production and export capacity in Amman with the Jordanian chamber’s support.

For his part, Tawfiq welcomed the Iranian chamber chief’s approach and said expanding bilateral economic and trade cooperation would be pursued in coordination with Iran’s chamber and its embassy in Jordan.
