Iran’s exports to the member states of Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) reached $1.076 billion in value in the first five months of the Persian calendar year (started March 21), according to the head of ASEAN Workgroup at Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPO).

Mohsen Rezaeipour said the figure indicated a 48% growth compared to the same period of last year, IRNA reported.

“Of the 10 ASEAN members, Thailand saw the highest measure of imports from Iran with 395,000 tons, valued at $266 million, suggesting an 88% year-on-year growth,” he said.

“Raw steel, steel sections, petroleum bitumen, and Chicken viscera are the major Iranian exports to the South East Asian country,” he added.

“Indonesia has been the second top importer of Iranian goods in ASEAN group in this period with 352,000 tons ($227 million). The figures show a 29% percent rise in value, despite a 30% decline in weight, compared to first five months of the previous Persian year.”

Sugar cane, palm oil, soy, rice, food products, medium-density fibreboard (MDF), and household appliances have been the major products imported from the countries in the ASEAN group into Iran, Rezaeipour said.
