President of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mine, and Agriculture (ICCIMA) Gholam Hossein Shafei said on Saturday that exports are the top priority of the economy.

Shafei made the remarks while addressing a ceremony in Tehran where the Minister of Industry, Mine, and Agriculture Reza Fatemi Amin virtually launched Iran’s pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai.

The ceremony was participated by heads of the county’s chambers of commerce and a large number of top Iranian exporters.

Shafei however noted that exports have to be coupled with strong production.

He called on three ministries of industry, economy and foreign affairs to reconsider and change all the existing rules hindering economic progress and exports within six months.

“We have a bad situation in terms of preferential and free trade agreements compared to the surrounding countries,” Shafei said.

He complained about an unbalanced preferential trade signed with Turkey, calling on the government to make use of the private sector representatives in joint commission meetings and delegations dispatched to different countries.

Speaking during the same ceremony, the industry minister said that Iran has to focus on exports of commodities that are exported by fewer countries, noting that the country need to enter the field of exports of science-based products.

Fatemi Amin regretted that Iran is exporting like countries with low manpower and high money.
