Iranian local chamber of Sistan-Baluchestan has begun negotiations with Afghan officials for investment in the mining sector of the neighboring country, according to the vice-chairman of the Mines and Mining Industries Commission of Iran Chamber of Commerce.

Gholam Sarvar Nouti Zehi told Iran Chamber newsroom that “in order to help expand overseas mining, we have had meetings with the presence of the governor of Sistan-Baluchestan Province and the governor of Nimruz Province of Afghanistan.”

Sistan-Baluchestan Chamber of Commerce hosted a meeting with the Afghan officials last week in which the president of Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce, chairman of Nimruz Chamber and the head of Sistan-Baluchestan House of Mine were present, Nouti Zehi said.

He added that a delegation from Sistan-Baluchestan are set to visit Afghanistan to visit the mines of the country.

Noting that Nimruz Chamber of Commerce and the Afghan mining sector activists have welcomed the presence of Iran in Afghanistan’s mines, he expressed hope that Iran and Afghanistan can sign agreements for mining cooperation in the near future.

Nouti Zehi said that Iran has the required power and knowhow to make investments in Afghanistan’s mining sector.

Ebrahim Jamili, head of Mines and Mining Industries Commission of Iran Chamber of Commerce, said in Mid-November 2021 that the ground is prepared for Iran’s activity in Afghanistan mining sector, noting that Iran welcomes cooperation with China in this regard.

Underlining the significance of overseas mining, he said that Iran has high potential and knowhow which helps the country to participate in mining projects of other countries, Afghanistan in particular.
