Although Iran is the 17th most populous world country, the latest statistics released by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) suggests that the country ranked 43rd among world top food importers in 2020.
The FAO report says that the industrial countries were the main world importers of food in the year under review.
China, the world’s most populous country, topped the list of the world’s food importers in 2020 with $157 billion of imports, the report said.
The United States came second as it imported over $146 billion of food in the year.
Other industrial countries, namely Germany, Netherland, Britain, Japan, France, Italy, Belgium, and Canada were ranked second to tenth respectively.
