Mostafa Ayati, who has been nominated by Iran’s Customs Administration (IRICA), won the vote of the Administrative Committee for the TIR Convention in an election on February 9 to become a member of TIR Executive Board for a fourth consecutive term.
Ayati had the support of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (ICCIMA).
TIR Executive Board is the main decision-making arm of the TIR Convention that elects seven members for its two years term of office.
Marco Ciampi of Italy, Elyor Khakimov of Uzbekistan, Pierre-Jean Laborie of the European Commission, Hugo Richard Mayer of Austria, Anil Şenmanav of Türkiye, and Caroline Zuidgeest of Netherlands were the other six ones elected to serve as TIR Executive Board members in the 2023-24 term.
With 125,604 TIR carnets issued by Iran in 2021, the country was the number one issuer of TIR carnets in the year.
