Russia was Iran’s main trade partner among Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member countries during the current Iranian year’s first 10 months (March 21, 2022-Jan. 20) with more than 3.11 million tons worth $1.79 billion, latest data released by the Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration show.
It was followed by Armenia with 1.23 million tons worth $402.08 million and Kazakhstan with 664,991 tons worth $265.9 million.
Trade between Iran and the five-member block reached 5.1 million tons worth $2.57 billion during the ten-month period under review, registering a 44.32% decline in terms of value compared with the corresponding period of last year.
Iran’s exports to EAEU members stood at 2.84 million tons worth $1.21 billion during the period, registering a 23.61% year-on-year increase in value.
Russia with 1.13 million tons worth $587.24 million (up 21.89%), Armenia with 1.22 million tons worth $390.99 million (up 52.66%) and Kazakhstan with 411,249 tons worth $152.33 million (up 1.02%) were the top export destinations.
Imports hit 2.26 million tons worth $1.36 billion during the period to register a 62.67% decline in value.
Russia was also the main exporter to Iran with 1.98 million tons worth $1.19 billion (down 63.65%). It was followed by Armenia with 253,741 tons worth $113.56 million (down 64.71%) and Belarus with 14,443 tons worth $35,259 million (up 43.56%).
Reports say that in 2021, trade between EAEU and Iran increased by 73% compared to 2020, exceeding $5 billion, while exports of EAEU member states more than doubled (from $1.65 billion to $3.42 billion), and imports went up by 29% (from $1.25 billion to $1.6 billion).
