An economic diplomacy forum between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) member states was held in the Iranian capital city of Tehran on Monday.
The forum followed a recent free trade agreement signed between Iran and the five-member bloc.
It was focused on expansion of relations between the two sides on agrifood areas.
The event, which was sponsored by Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (TCCIMA), was participated by representative from both the state and private sectors.
Addressing the forum, Jalaleddin Alavi Sabzevari, the director of Economic, Multilateral, and International Bureau of Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Iran’s membership in EAEU has never been on the agenda.
He said that Iran is rather seeking to be a member of a free trade zone with the five members of the union and to this end looks forward to become an observer member of EAEU.
Daniel Ibrayev, a board member of EAEU Trade Council, in a video message to the forum, underlined the need for enhancement of transportation between the two sides.
He said that an Iranian delegation is to visit Kyrgyzstan within the next few months to explore ways for cooperation in the light of the recently-signed free trade agreement.
