Managing-general of Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) Ali-Akbar Safaei said on Sunday that Iranian transit via Caspian Sea in northern country has increased by 70% since the beginning of the current calendar year (March 20, 2022) compared to figures from the preceding year.
He said that the rise in the transport via Caspian Sea has been achieved in more cooperation with the littoral countries.
The official referred to negotiations and holding different meetings with Russia, Kazakhstan and the countries on the eastern side of the Caspian Sea as well as expansion of maritime and port cooperation with India, the UAE and Oman which he said led to the connection of these countries via Iranian ports in the north and the south.
Safaei also said that the PMO plans to persuade the countries of the north of the Caspian Sea to invest in the International North-South Transit Corridor (INSTC).
The official added that Iran, India, and Russia are going to have a tripartite meeting of the deputy ministers of road later this month which is also to be participated by representatives from the private sectors of the three countries.
