Underemployment, the condition in which people in a labor force are working for less than 44 hours per week, stood at 9.5% in the fourth quarter of the previous Iranian year (Dec. 22, 2022-March 20), down 1.2% year-on-year and was higher for men and those living in rural areas, according to the Statistical Center of Iran.
The Q4 underemployment rate for men and women stood at 10.5% and 3.8%, respectively, while it was 7.7% for urban areas and 15.5% for rural areas.
Q4 statistics show that 35.6% of the country’s labor force worked more than 49 hours per week, indicating a 1.1% decrease over the same period of last year.
