Iranian lawmakers on Sunday approved Abbas Aliabadi as the country’s new minister of industry, mine and trade.
187 Iranian legislators voted in favor of Aliabadi, 58 others voted against him, with eight abstentions and two votes being dismissed.
Born in Arak in central Iran in 1962, Aliabadi has served as the CEO of MAPNA Group, Iran’s largest contractor for steam, gas and combined cycle and renewable power plants, for over 15 years.
He holds a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from Tehran’s Khajeh Nasir Toosi University of Technology.
Aliabadi replaces Reza Fatemi Amin who was dismissed from the post last month after failing to regain the vote of confidence of lawmakers.
